London · Wholesale and online retail since 2021

Somebody pays
for the boxit arrives in.

Since autumn 2025 the disposal cost of packaging is billed to the obligated producer, and that is usually the brand owner rather than the platform. Selling through a marketplace does not move it off a UK seller.

What we do

Four things, and a weight recorded for every one

Wholesale, online retail and clearance. Every consignment has its packaging weighed and its material recorded, because that is what has to be reported.

How it works

How we work

A requirement is quoted against stock that actually exists, terms are written before the first order rather than after the first dispute, and the packaging on every consignment is weighed and recorded at the point of packing.

Tell us the requirement

Lines, quantities, timing, and the grade you need.

Quoted on real stock

Against what is here, with availability stated honestly.

Terms in writing

Payment, returns, short deliveries and what is warranted.

Packed and recorded

Smallest suitable packaging, weighed and logged as it goes out.

Ways to buy

Quoted per order, per lot or on account. Clearance lots are priced on their stated grade, and the grade is not improved in the description.

How we work

A wholesale and online retail business in east London

WAAA Stock Ltd is a private limited company incorporated in England and Wales on 1 March 2021 with company number 13236148, registered at Katherine Road in London E6. Its registered activities are non-specialised wholesale trade and retail sale by mail order or over the internet. Farooq Alam has been its director since incorporation, and his identity is verified on the register.

The subject this site leads with is not the most interesting thing about selling goods, but it is the thing most likely to arrive as an unwelcome invoice. Packaging producer responsibility now charges the disposal cost of packaging to the obligated producer, and the obligation lands on the brand owner first — which in practice means whoever sells the goods under their own name. The thresholds are a turnover of one million pounds together with more than twenty-five tonnes of packaging, rising to registration, reporting and fees above two million pounds and fifty tonnes. The part that catches people is that a UK-established seller using an online marketplace keeps the obligation itself: the platform carries it only for sellers based outside the United Kingdom. Since the fee depends on weight, material and, from 2026, recyclability, the data has to be captured when a parcel is packed. So it is.

Frequently asked

The questions we get most

Does the marketplace not deal with packaging fees for me?

Only if you are not established in the United Kingdom. Under the 2024 regulations the operator of an online marketplace carries the packaging obligation in respect of sellers based outside the UK, which is what the rule was designed to fix. A UK-established seller trading through the same marketplace remains the obligated producer in its own right. A great many small British sellers have read a platform's announcement about taking on packaging obligations and concluded, reasonably but wrongly, that it covered them. It is worth half an hour to check which side of that line you are on.

What are the actual thresholds?

Two tests, and both have to be met. Your annual turnover must be one million pounds or more, and you must be responsible for supplying or importing more than twenty-five tonnes of packaging in a calendar year. If you are over both but under two million pounds of turnover or under fifty tonnes of packaging, you are a small producer: you report data but pay no disposal fees. Above two million pounds and fifty tonnes you are a large producer, and you register, report periodically and pay. Being under either test entirely means the arrangements do not apply to you, which is worth establishing before you spend anything on complying with them.

Why does recyclability change the cost?

Because the fees are modulated from 2026 according to an assessment of how recyclable the packaging is. That turns a design decision into a line in the accounts: the same product shipped in easily recycled packaging costs less to put on the market than the same product in a material that cannot be collected at the kerbside. It is the first time this particular argument has had a price attached to it, and it makes the practical choices — one material rather than laminates, no unnecessary void fill, a box the size of the goods — pay for themselves.

Why do you weigh packaging at the point of packing?

Because the reporting is by weight, by material and by nation of sale, and none of that can be reconstructed at the end of a year. Businesses that leave it until the deadline end up estimating, and an estimate is both the most expensive answer and the least defensible one. Capturing it as a parcel is packed costs seconds. It also means a trade customer who needs packaging figures for their own reporting can simply be given ours.

Are clearance goods sold with fewer rights?

No. Consumer statutory rights do not depend on a price being low, and nothing in our terms reduces them. What changes with clearance stock is the description: surplus, end-of-line, customer-returned and damaged stock are four different things, and a lot is described by what it actually is, including the proportion that will not be perfect. A buyer who needs every unit to be flawless should not buy a graded lot, and we will say so rather than take the order.

You buy from abroad. Does that make you responsible for the product?

In the relevant sense, yes. Where goods are brought into the United Kingdom, the business that does so is ordinarily the importer for product safety purposes and takes on obligations that sit close to a manufacturer's. We mention it because trade buyers sometimes assume responsibility stays with a factory on another continent, and it does not travel as far as people expect. It is a reason to buy from someone who knows they hold it rather than someone who has not thought about it.

A requirement to quote, or a clearance lot to move?

A free first conversation, with no obligation. If we are the wrong supplier for it, we will say so.
